Garden of Hope Foundation Partners with Aquila East Africa to put up handwashing stations in Kibera

Garden of Hope Foundation and Aquila East Africa have partnered to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus in Kibera slums by distributing handwashing stations in the area.

While launching the partnership, Victor Odhiambo the Executive Director, Garden of Hope Foundation noted that people living in informal settlements are at a higher risk if there were to be an outbreak. “Informal settlements like Kibera have poor access to water and other sanitation facilities. This poses a challenge to stop the Corona virus from spreading. Regular handwashing is crucial in curbing the spread of the virus. Through this partnership with Aquila East Africa we will put up hand washing stations at different points in Kibera to support the community.”

Aquila East Africa noted that hygiene remains one of the most important measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. “Due to a high population density and more frequent public gatherings in crowded spaces like markets and public transport, people living in urban slums are particularly at risk. As a result, handwashing becomes even more important,” said Kester Shimonjo, executive director Aquila East Africa.

“Handwashing with soap is one of the cheapest, most effective things you can do to protect yourself and others against corona virus, as well as many other infectious diseases. This partnership will see to it that the residents have access to free hand washing stations”, said Victor Odhiambo.
