Call for Entries: 3rd edition “My Kenya My Story” mobile phone film competition

The Kenya Film Commission has rolled out third edition of the “My Kenya My Story “mobile phone film competition. This is a competition for short films shot using exclusively using mobile phones. This year’s edition is themed “COVID -19 on staying at Home and Social Distancing”. This is in light of the worldwide measures of dealing with COVID -19. The call for Submissions will run from 23rd April 2020 to 3rd June 2020 .The submissions will be received via the Filmfreeway platform.
A five member jury will be tasked to take part in reviewing the entries, shortlisting of the nominees and tallying of votes. The jury vote will constitute 70% while an online public voting exercise will constitute 30% of the total vote.
The best short film will receive Sh200, 000 while the first and second runners up will receive Kshs.150, 000 and Sh100, 000 respectively.
This competition seeks to inspire creativity among filmmakers in the country and to widen the scope of film making using smart phones. This year’s theme is angled on the current universal call to stay at home and maintain social distancing due to the ongoing pandemic.
Below are details about the competition:
1. Eligibility & Participation Criteria
The Mobile Film Competition is open to Kenya residents aged 18 Years and above and shall be
subjected to the below criteria:
a) The Mobile Film Submitted must have been produced in Kenya, whose theme shall be
“Covid 19, stay at home and social distancing
b) The Mobile Film comprises of all Genres with a tagline “My Kenya my Story”
c) The length of the Mobile Film entries shall range between 3-5 Minutes (Maximum)
including open and closing remarks
d) All entries shall be submitted in English or any other Kenyan Language. English sub
titles will be required for all submissions including those with English dialogue and
participants
2. Mode of Submission
a) The Mobile Film Submissions must be in 1080 HD file (.MP4 format or .MOV format)
video in wide screen.
b) Submitted films should be uploaded online on Film Freeway, and should be accessible
on through download.
c) Public voting will be done via Kenya Film Commission online platforms.
d) All participants should submit a synopsis and a poster for their film.
e) Upload pictures of crew members on FilmFreeway.
f) Stock footage shall not be allowed. This includes: third party music, images, photos
and graphics.
g) The Commission shall only accept original content (not submitted elsewhere). Any
previous submissions shall not be accepted.
h) The Mobile Film should have been produced between 22nd April and 3rd June 2020
and each participant must own copyright of the mobile film entry
i) Behind-the-scenes mobile phone footage and pictures will be required for each
submitted film.
